seen on linux commercial trunk build 2003-01-22-05-trunk this can been seen best in mail when trying to encode a mail message with a different charset. -open mail compose window -Select View | Character Coding tested results: the available charsets are displayed by their code type expected results: the available charsets should be displayed by their language name and code type.
The Character coding menu used to be <Language><charset> format. For example, Japanese (Euc-JP)and Western (ISO-8859-1). Now, it dows not have Langauge name. It is only charset name, like Euc-JP and ISO-8850-1.
My previous comment made confused. I meant that only character coding name was not right character coding menu. It should be like "Japanese (EUC-JP)" and Western (ISO_8859-1). And Tracy and I looked at the Auto detect menu. Auto Detect menu contains "chardet.cjk_parallel_state_machine" or "chardet.ja_parallel_state_machine" which are wrong Auto detect menu.
cc: alecf, on the off chance that his changes for properties parsing (which is where I think that 'Western (ISO_8859-1)', etc., come from. [p.s., I am also seeing a warning in debug today "Unknown escaped value in properties file, file h:/mozilla4/mozilla/xpcom/ds/nsPersistentProperties.cpp, line 319" which I tracked down to parsing the sequence \"OK\" and the 'unknown escaped value' is the " character (ascii 0x22).

so it turns out that the warning is bogus. sorry for the alarm, I'll remove it when the tree opens.. its possible that I caused this, but I don't think it was me. I'll do some debugging anyhow.

This works for me on 01-23-08 windows trunk build.
In 1-23 Windows build, this works fine. However, under View | Character coding | More, there is Chinese Simplified (ISO-2022-CN) menu item. This should not be there.
The the problem that mentioned in previous comment is a different problem and was filed in bug 190328.
well then this is a dupe, not a dependent *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 190256 ***
