User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:126.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/126.0
Steps to reproduce:
For one of the accounts, I use an IMAP server, which has server-side spam filtering into a folder named "Junk Email".
In Thunderbird's Server settings, under Junk, I've specified to move Junk messages to this folder (see screenshot).
Actual results:
I have four email accounts. In the account/folders panel, there is a "Junk" group under which I see junk folders from three of my accounts. (see attached screenshot) The fourth one, however, is no longer shown there, but I can see it under the folder list for a particular IMAP server. Even there it does not have "trash" icon (see screenshot).
P.S. The same seems to be happening with "Trash."
Expected results:
I expect to see all three junk folders under "Junk"
I suspect that the grouping under the "Junk" group is done by an exact match on the "Junk" folder name, ignoring the user Junk folder setting per account.
Correction: The "Junk mail" folder, when shown under the appropriate server, does have a junk icon.
Thanks for images. I notice you have not selected to use 'adaptive junk mail controls' in that particular account so Thunderbird would not be auto searching for junk/spam and therefore would not be auto moving new junk messages.
However, if you were manually selecting a mail was Junk, then it would put mail in folder you have selected.
If server is auto putting emails into 'Junk Email' folder then it will display junk/spam in that folder because it is imap account.
It's more unusual to have server folders called 'Junk Mail', as they usually use the word 'Spam' for their default folders.
Are all of your accounts not using the 'adaptive junk mail controls' or is it only this particular account?
Right click on the Unified 'Junk' folder and select 'Properties'
Are you able to select the 'Junk Email' folder for that account?
I do not use Firefox adaptive Junk filtering since all my accounts are hosted by Gmail or Outlook, both of which provide sufficient junk filtering on the backend. I tried enabling Thunderbird adaptive junk filtering on top of that, but the benefits were not enough to outweigh additional false positives. I am happy with this setup. My issue was mostly about the missing junk folder for one account under the unified Junk folder.
I did not choose the folder name "Junk Email," but Microsoft Outlook IMAP makes it the default junk folder name. This is a fairly popular email system, and perhaps it is worth supporting this pattern when detecting junk folders.
Right-clicking on the Unified junk folder and adding the missing folder solved my problem. However, I still think this is a workaround and that Thunderbird should automatically detect and add it there, especially since it is already marked with a "junk" icon in the list of IMAP folders for this server.
Thank you for your suggestion on how to fix that for me!
