User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:128.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/128.0
Steps to reproduce:
As @Omar reported in this issue bug 1830744 comment 8, but this issue is closed.
I put the shortcut into Startup menu and set Run:minimized as shown in the picture on Windows 11 23H2.
And then restart my computer.
Actual results:
After system startup, thunderbird show its icon in system tray.
I try to send a mail to myself to test if thunderbird will receive messages in the background, however, thunderbird doesn't receive this mail.
Then I recover thunderbird from system tray, and it starts to work and receive new mails.
Expected results:
After system startup, thunderbird show its icon in system tray and start to receive mails in the background.
BTW, Thunderbird is becoming better and better thanks to your hard work. And I think it is now the time to add an option to allow it automatically startup in the background on system startup, which has been asked for several years and is really convenient to users.
I think there are 2 ways:
- Just automatically startup in the background on system startup and receive messages
- Register a service in the background to receive e-mails and pop up notifications. Since there isn't an option to minimize thunderbird when click on 'close' button(There's an extension to do this, but btw why not just add it into thunderbird), user may incorrectly shutdown thunderbird and stop receiving mails.
Thanks!

Additional information: seems "chat" component can correctly start to receive messages in this situation. It may be a mail-only problem.

Arcticn,
Does your issue match to any of these https://mzl.la/41iAQD6 ?

As I said at first, "As @Omar reported in this issue bug 1830744 comment 8, but this issue is closed."
Further checked this link, found more:
- issue bug 1843810, which has been closed
- issue bug 1859772, which is open, but targets Thunderbird 115
