Bug 1909544 allows the tracer to work from the brower toolbox, but it can be tedious to enable as you have to manually tweak a preference to make it work. (and toggling prefs from the browser toolbox isn't trivial)
We could show a checkbox in the options panel to enable it. At least in the browser toolbox, or also in the regular toolbox if we consider this feature to be ready for user visibility.
