I believe that load movie works like an image request in that it is loaded into a page on demand. When flash issues a load movie request it requests subsequent items from the network and loads them into the plug-in. It allows for large flash movies to be loaded into a browser and enables very interactive content. If you have furthur questions email Macromedia. The head of the Flash product line is Mark Strassman [mark@macromedia.com] and Troy Evans [tevans@macromedia.com]. They should be able to get you intouch with the developers of flash. I hope this helps. You gals/guys are doing a great job! Keep up the good work!! Theodore E. Patrick Ishophere.com

[Moving to correct component.] Theodore, could you please review the Bug Writing Guidelines on www.mozilla.org and provide the information listed there? e.g. what build did you check? what platform did you check? what is the attached test case supposed to do if the functionality did work? Thanks!

Comments from Troy Evans from bug 34827: NETSCAPE TEAM, In reviewing Preview release 1 of Netscape 6(mozilla) it seems there are some major compatibility problems in ActiveX support and Plug-in support. This problem causes serious functional problems with Macromedia Flash player (version 4.0.7.0 - this ships by default with Netscape 6 PR1) NB - Flash Player 4.0.27/28.0 are the latest versions. The following features are rendered useless in both the NS Flash Plug-in and the ActiveX Plug-in implementations: 1. LOAD MOVIE() 2. LOAD DATA() 3. Support for ActiveX & Plugin It seems this is due to some internal incompatibility with allowing plug-ins to access network resources via HTTP or HTTPS in the browser interface in both ActiveX and NS Plug-ins on Mozilla. We reported the error to the MOZILLA TEAM around October on Milestone 11 or 12 of Mozilla but it seemed to be only related to ActiveX support. This has changed since. As this is critical to Flash's success as a medium, I would hope that you could reslove this - as this does reflect on Netscape too. This would create a potentially large issue, as ever Flash site in existence that utilizes LOAD MOVIE() would have to be modified and some of the major benefits of using Flash (LOAD MOVIE & LOAD VARIABLE) would be rendered useless on particular browsers. Attached is a clear and repeatable example showing the error. It includes examples of the following: 1. USE OF THE ACTIVEX FLASH PLAYER ON MOZILLA - ACTIVEX.HTML 2. USE OF THE NS FLASH PLAYER PLUG-IN ON MOZILLA - EMBED.HTML 3. As NS6 plays BOTH ActiveX and NS Plug-ins, both need to be fully operational for complete support, otherwise all flash sites must change their HTML tags due to the <OBJECT><EMBED></EMBED></OBJECT> nesting technique that ships with FLASH and is recommended by all. Also we have since changed our trademark and branding for the Flash Player, we no longer refer to the Plugin as "Shockwave Flash" or to it as a plug-in. The correct term is "Macromedia Flash Player" If there is anything that I can do let me know. I would like to see these issues resolved by N 6 PR2 Regards, Troy Evans Flash Player Product Marketing Manager
Very important for beta2. Setting critical. -grin-

Yes, we need to get this working for beta2 as backward compatibility with existing Flash content (sans LiveConnect) is one of our goals for the Mozilla Plug-in API for beta2. Marking with beta2 and flash keywords.

Reassigned to myself. I'm going to investigate the problem on the Mac later this week. For now, the Mac builds are badly broken (multiple empty windows at startup).

I did see some problems on the Mac with the Cache and the Plugins but they were related to an outdated user profile and to the absence of plugins in debug builds. shrirang: if you trash your "Users50" folder and use any recent daily build, it should work. I verified with builds from 06/30 and 07/12. Closed as WorksForMe.
