Does not seem to compact folders, stuck at "Loading Folder"

Steps to reproduce:
Trying to compact folders does not appear to work. Instead of the message I used to get with how much is cleaned all I get is a message "Loading Folder" at the bottom of the program screen. I use POP to get my messages from my provider. I filed this with the community at and was told to file a bug report.

Actual results:
Unknown since I see no indication of it working.
Expected results:
Should see a message with compact results.

Are you still experiencing this issue?
Do you have any RSS or news accounts?
Check that you have write access to all the files in your Thunderbird profile.
Yes I am and no I have no RSS or news accounts.
Most of the time I only see the "Loading Folder" item and the bottom of the screen but sometimes I see something flash by there before the loading thing comes up. It seems like it might be compacting but before this started the amount compacted was what always showed at the bottom, not the folder message.

FYI, Thunderbird just updated to 128.2.0esr (64-bit) and it still does the same thing.

This didn't happen in version 115? (the prior version)
It happens in the current 128.2.2esr (64-bit) version, 128.2.0esr (64-bit) and the 1 before that. No idea about vesion 115.
Again, I see something flash on the bottom of the screen but then all I see is "Loading Message.." so I m not sure if it is actually compacting since this is the only message I can read at the bottom.
"Loading message..." overwrites the result:
