Steps to reproduce:
Recognized as a vCard standard
X-PHONETIC-FIRST-NAME
X-PHONETIC-LAST-NAME
Import *.vcf files containing
Actual results:
These settings disappear.
It is an accident in which data is lost without the user's knowledge.
Expected results:
Recognize these settings as a way of reading names, especially Kanji characters, and implement an option to arrange them based on this.
In addition, the contact registration screen should be able to register these as readings under the name. (This has been done for years in Japanese gara-kei, and Japanese names in particular need to be sorted by first name followed by last name, in Aiueo order, which is not identifiable by Kanji)
If there is still data to be lost, a confirmation dialog should be displayed.

Is the request that Thunderbird should process additional fields of a vcard, which it currently ignores?
(In reply to Kai Engert (:KaiE:) from comment #2)
Is the request that Thunderbird should process additional fields of a vcard, which it currently ignores?
I do not know if these fields are recorded internally, but since the list of unidentified fields cannot be seen on the GUI, it is effectively ignored, leading to data loss.
I feel this is a defect and a bug.
Additionally, in making the correction, I would like to request that the PHONETIC field be included. It is an enhancement which is important for Japanese.

I think dataloss is about data that you already have and that's important, and that's lost.
Here it seems we're simply being present with information, and we don't have the ability to process all of it.
I think that's a missing feature, not dataloss.

In the past there were some support for phonetic fields. https://phabricator.services.mozilla.com/D233331 removes the last pieces of it.
