Unread message count wrong after removing expired articles

Steps to reproduce:
- In a news folder that contains unread articles, select an expired article. The message preview pane will show a "Remove All Expired Articles" button.
- Press the "Remove All Expired Articles" button.
Expected behaviour:
- Thunderbird should remove all expired articles from the folder and, if any of the removed articles were unread, decrease the unread message count in the folder list by the corresponding number.
Observed behaviour:
- Thunderbird removes all expired articles from the folder but the unread message count in the folder list does not reflect the actual number of unread articles remaining in the folder. (Sometimes the number is lower than before, and sometimes it remains unchanged, but in any case it's not the right number.)
Selecting another folder and then revisiting the original one does not fix the problem, so this is probably not an occurrence of Bug 1244809. This may be a duplicate of Bug 1313909, but unlike in that report, I am seeing the problem only when expiring old articles in a news folder; I can't reproduce it any other way.

One thing that does seem to get the unread count to correct itself is to manually repair the folder by right-clicking on it, selecting "Properties" from the context menu, and then pressing the "Repair Folder" button in the "General Information" tab.
