I just happen to have a newly installed Ubuntu 24.04 without Thunderbird set up. I had no problem starting Thunderbird with or without an e-mail account -- I tried three launch approaches. The troubleshooting information is attached.
Build ID: 20240809151341
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:128.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/128.1.0
OS: Linux 6.9.3-76060903-generic #202405300957172244035824.04aa0a43fdev-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DY
This a different user agent from the initial report.
The following messages appear on the console when starting from the command line:
Gtk-Message: 04:30:30.279: Not loading module "atk-bridge": The functionality is provided by GTK natively. Please try to not load it.
[ImapModuleLoader] Using nsImapService.cpp
[GFX1-]: glxtest: libpci missing
This also appeared during one run:
JavaScript error: chrome://messenger/content/aboutMessage.js, line 119: NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE: Component returned failure code: 0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE) [nsIWebProgress.addProgressListener]
(I tried Help/About a second time and the message didn't appear again.)

Thank you for reporting this issue. To be clear on installation method, is this installed from a download from thunderbird.net or from the snap?
