User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20030204
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20030204
I have two mail accounts (IMAP and POP3). If I'm disconnected from the network
and later reconnect I often can no longer check my POP3 account for new messages.
Biff does not work, nor does manually getting mail.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. get new mail
2. disconnect network
3. reconnect network
4. get new mail
Actual Results:
no new mail is reported (automatically or when manually hit get messages)
Expected Results:
new mail should be reported and mail should be collected
I suspect this is a mail checker hanging because of a disconnected network and
blocking further/later attempts to check mail.
I've seen this problem intermittently over various Mozilla versions - although
more recently 1.3a seemed to not have this problem.
The only "fix" I've found is to totally quit Mozilla.

I'd like to help and confirm this...
Is there a way to find out more about the current mozilla threads?
I envision something like ps (or the Windows Task Manager) that lists all the
threads along with task information (like biff for xxx acount, renderer, network
fetch, etc.) and age of thread (how long biff has been looking for mail).
I think that would be very revealing and helpful!

I'm also seeing this, in CVS-HEAD, on Linux (I can reproduce it consistantly so
far). Setting OS to All, confirming, switching component to Mail Back End.

Technically ->'major' severity (loss of a major function, and killing/restarting
the browser is not really an 'easy' workaround).
Severity: normal → major

I am not able to reproduce this on a current trunk CVS build, Linux.
Is this still an issue in recent builds?

This, or something very similar, happens to me with 2003022814. POP accounts on
win98.

I think that you need to have mozilla's pop-biff'ing enabled
to see this (that's the only way I can reproduce, and
reproduce consistantly).

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030401
I first noticed this on 1.3 & it still exists on 1.4a.
In previous versions of mozilla (1.0, 1.1) while disconnected from the internet
when the time came to automatically check for new messages I'd get a helpful
popup to tell me that I'd clicked hangup 10 minutes earlier.
Now this no longer happens, it just seems to get stuck connecting (sometimes get
a constant connecting to ... in the status bar). This will never recover, even
if you manually click on get new messages.

I am no longer able to replicate the bug with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows

Confirming WFM on 1.4b. This bug can be closed as fixed.

I haven't been able to reproduce it [yet?] in 1.4b so it is probably reasonable
to mark it fixed. If it comes up again, I know where to go. :)

I'm still seeing this problem and it's very annoying. I leave my dial-up
Internet connection running and it unexpectedly dies and I don't restart it in
time, I need to restart Mozilla (both Browser and Mail windows + all tabs). Is
there any way to "wake-up" Mozilla once net connectivity has been re-established?
Sorry if this a known problem - I can't find it mentioned in the docs and this
was the closest bug.
