I am using Firefox under windows 10.
I have noticed that quite often firefox fails to set proper account name when it suggests to store the newly created
account for services.
Either firefox sets the account name to
- an empty string (this happens more often), or
- incorrect account name.
These cases happen when an account creation go through multiple pages.
I can understand the difficulty of keeping track of what was meant to be the valid account name.
At least, we should do something about the empty account name.
We should add confirmation for blank account name:
I think firefox should require additional confirmation from the users for non-empty account name when it tries to store the account/password pair. It should ask the user if an empty account name is OK, allowing the user to re-type a non-empty account name
I think it is up to the user to check if the non-empty account user name is OK.
(As long as the string in the name portion of the account/password pair stored in the firefox profile is unique
we can use the stored password without difficulty.)
It is a little disconcerting to use an empty account name in a service for which you may have switched, say, e-mail accounts that are used for the account name, too. For this reason, it is best to make firefox ask the user if the empty account name field is OK when it offers the user to store the newly created account/password pair.
