RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1912416

People

(Reporter: pokechu022, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:130.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/130.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Enter e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page in the URL bar. (You do not need to navigate to the page, but can still do so.)
  2. Select all (either automatically on click, via control+a, via shift+end, via shift+right, via shift+control-right, or shift+click)
  3. Press shift+control+left.

Tested on both 130.0.1 and Nightly 132.0a1 (2024-09-24). I feel like this is a new behavior from the past few months but haven't attempted to confirm this.

This does not happen for non-full selections (e.g. "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Pag", "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/", "ttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page"). It also doesn't happen when using just shift+left instead of shift+control+left.

Actual results:

The selection is completely cleared, and the cursor is at the start of the text. (For a fraction of a second, the selection is the expected result (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/), but then it becomes cleared).

Expected results:

One URL segment should be deselected (i.e. the selection should be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/).

I often need to copy the domain name from the address bar, so this behavior is very annoying for me.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Address Bar' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.
