Steps to reproduce

  1. Open Firefox with TalkBack enabled.
  2. Go to 3dot Menu -> Sync and save data -> No account? Create one to sync Firefox between devices
  3. Go to each element from the page using Talkback gestures and observe the behavior.
  4. Go back to Sign in with your camera and tap on: "Use email instead".
  5. Go to each element from the page using Talkback gestures and observe the behavior.

Expected behavior

Talkback doesn't read "Double tap to activate" for the "Continue to your Mozilla account" text.

Actual behavior

TalkBack announces "Double tap to activate" for:

  1. firefox.com - from custom tab
  2. The "Continue to your Mozilla account" text
  3. The "Continue to your Mozilla account" webview
  4. On "Enter your password" page the avatar is read: "Your avatar, graphic. Double tap to activate"

Device information

  • Firefox version: Firefox 131.0b9
  • Android OS version: Xiaomi Pad5 (Android 13)

Summary: [a11y] TalkBack announces "Double tap to activate" for the "Continue to your Mozilla account" text → [a11y] TalkBack announces "Double tap to activate" for certain texts and elements on the "Continue to your Mozilla account" and "Enter your password" pages

This issue is also reproducible for elements/graphics from: the Manage Account page ( for the web view, key graphic, for the avatar)
the Confirm pairing page ( for firefox.com, the Confirm pairing web view, the device from where Android was synced)

I think this is an FxA Content Server issue—it looks like TalkBack thinks the <h1> element (in the case of "Continue to your Mozilla account") is focusable?

I wonder if setting tabindex="-1" on these elements will stop TalkBack from reading them as focusable. This Chromium bug suggests that's how it works, but I'm not sure if that's the right change to make. Over to the FxA server folks to confirm!
