Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:131.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/131.0
Steps to reproduce:
I expect when I disable notifications, put on DND, and mute audio that Firefox is totally quiet and doesn't make a sound.
Actual results:
Notifications sounds keep coming through my speakers anyway. Firefox is the only app that does that.
Expected results:
Stop making sound! If do not disturb is on and audio is muted, don't make noise. I don't want to hear it!
Sorry for the exclamation points but this is so completely unacceptable and I have no idea how to stop it. Do I need to stop using Firefox because it have zero respect for DND and muted audio? I don't have a clue what Firefox is doing or why audio notifications somehow bypass literally everything I can possibly do to mute Firefox audio but it does. Visual notifications (the ones in the Window sidebar) are, in fact, suppressed when DND is on, but the audio notifications aren't.
For example, if I'm using a Gmail checker extension and new mail arrives, Firefox manages to make a notification sound despite, as noted, DND being on and all audio being muted.
I can't imagine this is a feature so it must be a bug. I have no clue how to find it, but it's easily reproducible because, unfortunately, it happens all the time when I'm podcasting and it's honestly infuriating and I'm sure you can understand why.
Please have Firefox respect the user's desire to not be disturbed by muting EVERYTHING when DND is on and/or when the audio device itself is muted.
Thanks.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Audio/Video: Playback' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

This isn't a Firefox bug, Firefox makes sound if it is told to make sound by an extension or a website. On a website, it won't make a sound (by default, this is configurable) without a user action having been performed (for example clicking on something). In short, it doesn't make sound on its own without being told to.
We have features to disable autoplaying media. We also have features to mute tabs, and to disallow websites to fire notifications. Your operating system has a feature to mute Firefox entirely if that's what you prefer.
This issue is best reported to the maker of your extension, because extensions can make sound without user consent.
