Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:131.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/131.0

Steps to reproduce:

I am using Thunderbird (TB) 128.3.2 esr(64bit). I had a problem in that I couldn't send email from an Outlook365 account. I suspect that I caused some misconfiguration somehow by filling with the settings. I have 9 accounts of various flavours on my TB. So I used the "Remove account" feature to remove the account and then set it up again. But the problem was still there.

Actual results:

After persevering, the answer was to delete the SMTP server in the "Account actions" pane, then delete the account concerned + files + the folder in WIndows Explorer ImapMail called outlook.office365-1.com and re-install the account from scratch. This then worked and email is received and sent satisfactorily again.

Expected results:

As SMTP servers are individual in that they each have a user name attached to them, they should be removed automatically when you un-install or re-install an account and not left behind to continue the mayhem. You had me scratching my head over this problem. While you're at it, stop letting duplicate SMTP server names be created to overwrite previous settings and so fool the unwary and create sent email confusion. I have five accounts with a company including alias accounts and your lax SMTP server overwriting policy really causes havoc. Grrrr.
