Steps to reproduce:

On an Intel Kaby Lake Dell XPS 13 9360 with Debian sid/unstable and Nightly use the video conference software BigBlueButton 2.7.14 (client version 355).

Actual results:

The meeting participants say my audio is distorted. But there is no distortion when doing BBB’s echo test, or testing with Audio+Video+Screen Recording using RecordRTC.

Expected results:

No distortion should happen.

As I have distortion during playback using mpv 0.38.0 when using PipeWire directly, and no such issue using the PulseAudio backend (that uses PipeWire in the end), I was wondering if Nightly uses PipeWire directly, and if I can switch to PulseAudio for testing.

Attachment: Output of `about:support`

In about:support pulse-rust is listed as audio backend, so I guess it’s unrelated to PipeWire. :/

Hi Paul, thanks for the report. How did you setup the pipewire? Firefox should work with pipewire via pipewire-pulse layer since we currently don't have pipewire backend. There is a on-going discussion here: https://github.com/mozilla/cubeb/issues/705

Steps:

1. Install Firefox profiler: https://profiler.firefox.com/
2. Open Firefox, and go to about:logging page
3. Click Logging preset and choose Media Playback
4. Click Start Logging
5. Open a new tab and repeat the steps that cause the issue. Once you reproduce the issue, close the tab, then go back to about:logging page and click Stop Logging
6. The Firefox Profiler should launch itself automatically.
7. Click Upload Local Profile, then download the profile and upload it to Bugzilla, or paste the share link in the comment directly.
