RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1919721

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:132.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/132.0

Steps to reproduce:

This first started after an update a few weeks ago when the toolbar got reset with the update, e.g. the reload button moved to the left (I have it on the right), the flexible spacers got removed, oddly the back and forward buttons swapped position, the bookmarks bar stopped showing any bookmarks (but the bar was still visible and the bookmarks still existed), and finally the new tab button moved to the left side rather than the right.

I see there is a similar bug report on MacOS which describes similar behavior but is marked as fixed. For me there is one part that still doesn't work, described in the next section.

Actual results:

I reconfigured everything back to how it was before and it is fine now except for one thing, the new tab button, which still moves to the left side each and every time Firefox starts. I have gone through all Firefox settings and found no relevant options, tried the troubleshooting mode with all extensions disabled and it still happens.

I have continued to update Firefox semi-regularly since it first happened but the new tab issue persists (nothing else, however, has been reset with the new updates like it did after that update a few weeks ago).

Expected results:

Obviously all customisations should have never been reset like that in the first place, and while I was able to fix most of that, the new tab button shouldn't move to the left side again every time I open Firefox.

I assume this info is sent with the user agent string but if not, this is Firefox Developer Edition, the version from the official Arch Linux repository.

I'm sorry that I can't pinpoint exactly which update caused this, all I know is it has been happening for at least a couple weeks, but my memory is not good enough to tell you if that's 2 weeks or 4 weeks or maybe even 6 weeks.

You will need to use the Restore defaults once (not move things back), then customize the toolbars again to your preferences. Can you try and see if that stops the button from moving around?

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Widget: Gtk' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → Widget: Gtk
Product: Firefox → Core

It seems like that did work at the moment, thank you.
