User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20030210 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20030210 When downloading files of any significant size, that would normally generate a download progress bar (usually a Meg or more), no progress bar or any other indication appear. For me, this would typically be video files being downloaded to the browser in a text format, which then gets saved as an mpg file. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Select file. 2.New screen with "text" data appears. 3.Download begins but with no apparent status. Actual Results: If I tell the browser to save the file, it will eventually generate the standard "Save" dialog box as usual. Saving occurs normally. Expected Results: A status bar should have appeared in the lower right bottom portion of the browser window bar.
Please provide an URL as an example. Does it occur with: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/brownbag/volume1.rm ?
I tried the download with the URL I was provided > (http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/brownbag/volume1.rm) > The Download Manager and Progress Dialog functions all work as expected, but > no progress bar appears.

Phil, please provide an example URL. (The URL in comment 1 doesn't load in the browser window as Phil describes in comment 0.)
Summary: No download progress bar at bottom of page. → No download progress bar at bottom of page
http://whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com/index_anime.html?fromsite=quicktime No progress bar, just a dialouge box asking me if I want to save the file to disk, open it with Stuffit or Open it with a different application. Download preferences are set to "Don't open anything."
Your original description of a video file loading in a browser window as gibberish text is a subcase of bug 191000. If you can find a properly-typed download which displays a progress bar in some other browser (Safari) but not in Mozilla/Firefox, please post the URL for analysis.
