Attachment: Missing sys tray icon with no actions

Running the 133.0b1 Thunderbird snap from the --beta channel in a 24.04 VM, the system tray icon is just a white square and when you right click on it, nothing happens.

I expect to see the symbolic icon in the system tray, and I expect that when I right click on it there should be an option to quit the application

This may not be specific to snap or flatpak. I see it with Linux installs from thunderbird.net as well.

Just a quick update here.. once I learned that we had the same issue with the beta tarball (so not even the snap) but it worked fine with the daily tarball (1942127), I have been trying to pack the daily tarball into the snap to see if it has the same working result. Because of what kind of tarball the snap expects to get and package, I've been reverse engineering how to do this. I can build a snap but with older langpacks, that ofc crashes when started. So my next step is to add some hack in the snapcraft.yaml to massage the daily langpack strings to match the beta langpack strings that are ofc different :)

I'm working on other things too, so this fix is happening in the background with my other responsibilities but I'll keep on it so we can get this resolved soon.

We have not forgotten about this but other things have been a higher priority for the moment.. On the bright side, because Ubuntu ships the Thunderbird snap, when there is a fix for the icon the users will get it independent of the version of Thunderbird available at the time the Ubuntu release was made.
