User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20030210
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20030210

In the Bookmark Manager, when the focus is in the Search text edit box, the New
Folder, New Separator, File Bookmark(s)..., etc. buttons don't respond to clicks.

If you give the focus to the bookmarks pane, the buttons work again.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Select Bookmarks:Manage Bookmarks...
2.Click in the Search text edit box to place the focus in it.
3.Click on the New Folder (or any other) button.

Actual Results:
Nothing

Expected Results:
It should have popped up the New Folder dialog.
I can reproduce this using 2003021008/linux. Is it a regression? I couldn't find
an obvious dupe.
Confirming with 1.3b

OS->All

No errors in the JavaScript Console

This occurs with the menu too (file: new folder, for example). This leads me to
suspect that it's not a focus issue so much as the bindings for the commands
don't cope when an item in the tree view is not selected.

In addition the Properties, Rename and Delete items should observe the focus and
become disabled when the focus is on the search bar.

Still seeing this bug with build 2003060308 Windows XP

Worse, if you use the search function to find a bookmark, then select it, none
of the management buttons can be used. As a result, if you need to change a
bookmark, you must know its path in the bookmarks and navigate using that path
to select it. It would be much nicer to be able to search for a bookmark, then
be able to use the management buttons/features on it.

Still confirming on 2.0.1pre
This is still present in the latest nightlies (both 2.0 branch and trunk, after Places-based bookmarks landed; the buttons are gone there but the same applies to the menu items under File). Nothing in the Error Console.
Can't reproduce this on current trunk, anyone still able to?

I still see this.

The state of the menu items depends on the current AND previous location of the focus. If the focus is on the "All Bookmarks" item in the left column the three menu items are not active. This doesn't change after moving the focus in search text field. If a folder is selected in the left column the items "New Bookmark" and "New Folder" are active. This doesn't change after moving the focus in the search text field. But these buttons don't work as OP said.
