Steps to reproduce:
I'm writing this from what a user contacted @FirefoxSupport about via DM
"Hello, I'm reaching out regarding a privacy issue I have been facing lately when using firefox.
I have given the screen sharing permission to firefox as I use the browser to have online meetings using google meet. I am able to share my screen during calls. However, even after the call has ended, my Macbook Air continues to inform me that the browser still has access to my screen -- which is concerning to say the least.
That notification goes away only after I restart my laptop after online calls, which is tedious and frustrating.
I would appreciate support on this privacy matter at your earliest. I have been using firefox for a while and had thought it was safe to use compared to competitor browsers. "
The user screen shared their screen into a Google Meet call.
Actual results:
The MacOS privacy warning for screen recording doesn't dissapear.
I can't verify this myself as I don't have a MacOS device.
Expected results:
After sharing finished, MacOS should stop saying Firefox is using screen recording.

Hi Isaac, thanks for reporting. But what version of Firefox and MacOS is this with?
This doesn't repro for me on macOS 14.0, but I also see a dedicated (purple) screen sharing indicator+dropdown instead a "Privacy" sub-section under the settings dropdown. The 14.0+ drop-down has more direct language, like: "Firefox is capturing your screen", but it also goes away immediately once I stop capture or close the tab.
The only problem I found was if I refresh the webpage without stopping capture then the purple indicator only disappears after ~10 seconds. This might be a technical limitation, but doesn't seem to match your reported symptom.
MacOS has made a lot of recent changes in this area, so I would recommend the user update to the latest available version of MacOS and re-test.
The test page I used was https://jan-ivar.github.io/dummy/gdm.html
Thanks, have asked the user to update both Firefox and MacOS and retest, and will ask them for version info and more details if the issue persists.
