Steps to reproduce:
-
I attempted to locate an
.RPM
installation package for Firefox Nightly. -
I located
wiki.mozilla.org/Nightly#Is_Nightly_available_as_a_.deb/.rpm?
, which stated the undermentioned (paraphrased):Is Nightly available as a .deb/.rpm?
As of October 2023, we now officially provide a
.deb
repository for Debian-based distros (example: Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, etc).Mozilla does not provide yet
.rpm
packages, but ourtar.bz2
binaries work on all distributions which meet Firefox system requirements. -
I located
connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/provide-native-non-deb-linux-packages-for-firefox-nightly/idi-p/28849
, and subscribed to it. It was incredibly popular. However, it is now 404 (for me, at least), per the undermentioned (verbatim) quotation from the aforementioned URI:The idea you are trying to access is not available.
I'm not conspiratorial, and Mozilla's forum software is very poorly maintained (per
id=1864191
) so I'll assume that it's because the request was approved in some manner, and thus considered to be no longer necessary. Irrespective, I don't see the effort tracked anymore. Certainly not at Bugzilla.
Actual results:
I was unable to install Firefox Nightly without utilizing snap install --channel=latest/edge
. However, snap install
is currently non-functional on Fedora, per discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/7
. No flatpak
counterpart appears to exist, even in flathub-beta
.
Additionally, Chrome Canary very recently became available for both .Deb
and .RPM
-based OSes, per askubuntu.com/revisions/1534342/
.
Expected results:
I should be able to install Firefox Nightly on .RPM
installer-based OSes, like Fedora and openSUSE's.
