The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::DOM: Copy & Paste and Drag & Drop' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.
I cannot reproduce this bug on Win11.
Could you explain the more details about how to reproduce the bug which you see?
- What did you mean about "a title"?
- How much long text did you paste into the subject field (
<input>)? - How much text you try to cut from the pasted subject?
This is on a MacBook Air . I posted an article with a title. Then tried to cut the title and pasted into the subject of the email. I can not do any pasting - like hung. If I close the email and reopen it will work. A recent failure.

I posted an article with a title. Then tried to cut the title and pasted into the subject of the email.
Sorry, I don't get what you did exactly...
What did it mean "posted an article with a title"? What's the content and where did you post it? Clipboard data depends on where you copied from.
I copied and then pasted the text and the title of an article off the Internet into a Gmail email. Then, I tried to cut the title and paste it into the subject line of the email. If fails. In fact, I can move my cursor anywhere in the email, and there is no response on a click. of the mouse. It is lie all is frozen. However, when I go back to the recipients and click in that field, then back to the body of the email and to the subject line, the paste works.
mplsjohn: Thank you, but I don't still reproduce this bug with copying titles in some news sites. Could you post a URL which you copied from? And do you reproduce this bug when you restart Firefox within the troubleshoot mode from the "Help" menu?
The next time it fails, I will provide the additional details.
I'm unsure if this URL will help you since it is WSJ and you need a subscription.
I have not tried the troubleshooting mode.
This is what it looks like

Vladimir Putin is trying to reassemble Greater Russia, and Western Europe isn't prepared to defend itself. The war in Ukraine has exposed the shortcomings, yet the Continent's politicians still aren't doing enough to rebuild their militaries. One reason is that environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies continue to cripple defense investment.
Start with the European Investment Bank, which finances investments to meet European Union policy goals. The bank long refused to finance dual-use projects like drones unless more than half of the expected revenue derived from civilian uses. It took more than two years after the Ukraine war began for the bank to waive that dual-use threshold. Yet the bank still refuses to finance the manufacture of weapons or ammunition.

Dear reporter,
Thank you for your comments. I also have a hard time reproducing this issue. You mentioned this is a recent issue to you in comment 3. In this case, would you mind helping us get where this issue regressed from by using this tool https://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/ ? Thanks again.

Since activating the troubleshooting mode, I have not had any issues. I am disabling two extensions and seeing if it reoccurs. If so I will try the tool.

Today, with troubleshooting mode on, it failed as before. Could it be Gmail?

Could be, but anyway sounds odd to me because its a simple <input> element. So, I wonder what they need to handle things at the paste which may lead their bug since the text is automatically pasted as reasonable plaintext.

The issue continues, but not all the time. When it occurs, if I move the cursor to the address/recipients line and click, then I can go back and paste with no issues. The freeze seems resolved by clicking outside the main text or subject line.

Thanks for reporting this issue, I have some questions:
- Does this mean clicking anywhere outside the main text or subject line resolves the issue, or do you need to click a specific area to make it work again?
- When the issue occurs, does paste functionality work on pages other than Gmail?
And would it be possible for you to follow the below steps to capture some clipboard log when issue occurs?
- Open about:logging
- Set the log module to
WidgetClipboard:5. - Click
Set Log Modulesbutton. - Click
Start Loggingbutton to start logging. - (reproduce the issue: try to paste something)
- Click
Stop Loggingbutton to stop logging, it will open profiler page. - Upload the logging by click
Upload Local Profile. - Share the link to us.
Thanks!

I fully understand your request and need for the information. I'll try but it only fails occasionally and I have not figured out the trigger so I have no idea when to start the logging. I'll start on failure and see if that helps.

You can enter "about:logging" in URL bar to open it.

The logging won't work. First, I can not make it fail on demand. Instead, it is intermittent, and it doesn't seem logical to keep logging all day. When I start it on failure, the exiting to a new window cancels the failure, and I can paste okay. Net, net occasionally when cutting in Gmail you can not paste in the email subject, but if you go outside the body to the addresseees or any where outside the email such as a new tab in the browser.

I tried to reproduce this on macOS, but no luck.
(Since the reproduction rate isn’t high and we don't see other report so far, the issue can also be easily recovered, so set to S3 for now.)
