User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:134.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/134.0
Steps to reproduce:
I open Thunderbird to check my email. Whenever I do, I get this popup window about having to compress folders. Every day
Also today, after updating on 128.6.0esr.
Reproducing steps:
- Open Thunderbird.
- Notice the compression request and hit "compress now".
- Quit OK on "junk folder <empty, I must say!> could not be compressed"
- Close Thunderbird.
- Wait for one minute doing nothing
- Reopen Thunderbird.
- Compression request reappears. Saying same 61,8 MB would be freed!
Actual results:
I guess, compression did not happen for some reason.
If it had, whatever, the number (61,8 MB) would change.
And that hampering junk folder is empty. I tried to delete it but for some reason I cannot.
Expected results:
Compression used to occur like twice a month or so.
Hint: 1) I did not find the version field. After I did, I am not able to enter 128.6.0esr there. "128" is not accurate as the bug is there since a few weeks only.
2) It should be possible to attach more than one screenshot.

However, I had a look earlier today, and afaict there have been no changes to compact starting since 128.4.2 in early November?
However, there are some bugs whose patches are not yet on version 128, such as automatic imap folder repair.

dag, is this an imap account or pop?
Also, I wonder if the cause of this isn't more aligned to something like bug 1260698 - Compact folders - shows wrong estimated and compacted size. Compacts too often. totalExpungedBytes number is wrong.

all of mine are imap.
Yes the bug can be connected to this one.
Update: Now the compression reminder comes also sometimes in the same session such as when I move an e-mail to a local folder.

But you didn't have this problem prior to 128.6.0?
How long have you been running Thunderbird?
I am sorry I cannot say about the version numbers and how often they change as I don’t often look at them.
I use Thunderbird since 2005. on at least three different Windows computers.
The only thing I know is that this behavior only started a few weeks ago.
