RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 988504

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:134.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/134.0

Steps to reproduce:

My apologies if this is a duplicate. This seems an important feature for use cases like e.g. being able to have the IMAP folder with work e-mails (that e.g. originated from known work-related senders) to cause notifications on the work laptop, but mute them on the personal device. This is an important work-life-balance feature.

I'm pretty sure this can't be achieved with unsubscribing if passive browsing is desired to remain available, and it can't be achieved with simply marking the mails as read with some server rule since then the notifications won't work on any device rather than disabling them on just some.

Steps to see that this isn't possible:

  1. Open "Properties" in the context menu of any IMAP folder listed in your Thunderbird main account view

  2. Find a way to mute notifications for just this folder, without losing access to browsing it. There doesn't seem to be any.

Actual results:

The functionality doesn't seem to be available.

Expected results:

The feature should perhaps become available in Thunderbird. It seems to be a commonly requested feature: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1077017 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1288702 Commonly, addons are commended, but in the past these have often caused compatibility issues. Since this seems both a fairly simple and fairly essential feature, I suggest that Thunderbird implement it.

Sorry if for some reason I missed this isn't a useful suggestion.
