Details

User-Agent:       Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US) Netscape6/6.1
Build Identifier:

I downloaded the mozilla-i656-pc-linux-gnu-1.2.1-sea.tar.gz file to my home
directory, unpacked it, and ran, as root, the mozilla-installer file to instal
into /usr/local/mozilla-1.2.1.

As my normal user account I edited ~/.mozilla/default/1n2ap1oy.slt/user.js and
added the line

user_pref("accessibility.typeaheadfind.autostart", false);

but when I ran /usr/local/mozilla-1.2.1/mozilla the typeaheadfind was still
activiating whether I typed an initial ' or / or not.

Editing the same user.js file to include
user_pref("accessibility.typeaheadfind", false);
did in fact turn it off completely.

The file describing typeaheadfind,
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/ui/accessibility/typeaheadfind.html, linked from
the release notes for 1.2.1 indicates that there should be a section in the
Preferences:Advanced panel that configures keyboard navigation, but I could not
find it.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Emile: Can you try a more recent build of Mozilla?

Moz 1.3b has a GUI pref to control it, and it worksforme

If I uncheck:
Preferences | Advanced | Keyboard Navigation | Find automatically...

Find as you type is disabled. Typing does nothing.

Moz 1.3b (2003021008) / Win2K
i do assume mozilla was not running when you changed the JS file, right =)
It's wfm, changing prefs.js is no longer necessary with the GUI, and the build
with the error is many months old.

Resolving worksforme.
