Needinfo requests when filing a bug sometimes do not get processed

Most recently seen when I filed bug 1953703 but also bug 1951647 (when I wasn't looking yet to see if I could reproduce it, just surprised at the outcome). I suspect it also happened in bug 1952058. However it also did work for me in e.g. bug 1951642.
I think this might be about me (can't speak for Tim) making typos when adding people to the CC or needinfo field, so when I submit the bug I get a "bugzilla couldn't find people matching this string" page, and then I click the back button, fix my mistake, and submit again - and the bug gets filed but the needinfo is lost. Still, that is surprising. Hopefully the logs can help us work out what's going wrong here?

To follow up on Gijs' point, I genuinely can't remember if I clicked the needinfo button when I filed Bug 1952058. Maybe I had the needinfo enabled but I refreshed the bug when creating it or something (or maybe something like what Gijs described, clicking the back button, fixing a mistake, etc), I can't recall unfortunately.

When adding a needinfo directly from the enter bug form, there are no radio buttons or drop downs for needinfo. You just fill in one or more email addresses of the people you want to needinfo.
