Found in

  • Nightly 138.0a1

Affected versions

  • Nightly 138.0a1

Tested platforms

  • Affected platforms: Ubuntu 22.04

Prerequisites

  • Set the pref "browser.contextual-password-manager.enabled" to true in about:config
  • Have the sidebar enabled
  • Have the Passwords sidebar open
  • Have screen reader enabled

Steps to reproduce

  1. Trigger a notification or warning in Passwords sidebar
  2. Listen to the screen reader announcement

Expected result

  • Notifications and warnings should be read when they appear.

Actual result

  • Notifications are not read when displayed. Instead the panel is read again.
  • If a button inside the notification is focused using the Tab key, Orca reads aloud "alert" but does not read the notification content.
  • If the notification contains an alert, Orca reads it as "alert list with X items" when focus reaches the link or a button inside the notification.

I am also able to reproduce this issue for "Remove password?" prompt, using Firefox 138.0b7 on Ubuntu 22.04. The panel is not read when displayed (after pressing the trash can icon).
