Details

If you set a primary password in Firefox136.0.1 at least once and then update to 136.0.2 or 137.0b6/Nightly138.0a1, even if Bug 1946121 is fixed, the Primary Password prompt is displayed when open about:preferences.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create new profile and start Firefox136.0.1 with the profile (i.e., Completely clean profile, no firefox accont and sync)

  2. Set Primary Password from about:preferences#privacy

  3. Restart Browser. And cancel if Primary Password prompted.

  4. Quit Browser

  5. Emulate update from Firefox 136.0.1 to 136.0.2 (or 137/138).
Start latest build 136.0.2(*1) or Beta137.0b6 / Nightly138.0a1 which bug 1946121 has been fixed.
    (*1) Build from treeherder.mozilla.org/jobs?repo=mozilla-release

  6. Open about:preferences

Actual results:
The Primary Password prompt is displayed.

Expected results:
The Primary Password prompt should not is displayed.

FWIW, deleting the signon.management.page.os-auth.optout entry in prefs.js solves this problem.

This has been a problem for a while, bug 1915672 only temporarily hid this problem by asking for the primary password on startup.

(128esr is marked as unaffected for this bug, I believe this is a mistake, and the same issue affects 128esr.)
