User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130

In the URL entry line, if you enter, for example, <joe mehaffey> you get an
error message that this is not a valid URL. VERY TRUE but it is a valid entry
for SEARCH. And.. Then if you, for example, enter <joe.mehaffey.com> (which is
OBVIOUSLY a URL, it will try and SEARCH on it.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.See above.
2.
3.

Actual Results:
In both cases you get an error message which is in error.

Expected Results:
If it LOOKS like a URL it should be treated as a URL. If it LOOKS like anything
else, it should be treated as a search entry.

Only thing I can think of is you need to pay attention to where your mouse is
hovering. Considering that at first you typed joe mehaffey. It is now in the
history. Now when you type joe.mehaffey.com it will bring that history back.
Maybe you didnt realize you selected the history joe mehaffey instead of the
correct address.
Marking WFM using 2004020909 in WinME (Win32).

Reporter, if still a problem with a recent build, please re-open or create a new
bug. Thanks!

In 1.6 it still fails for me on a Win2k machine.

If you just put <joe mehaffey> in the URL line, you get an error message "not a
valid URL". This is true, but it IS a valid search input. If the input in the
URL line is NOT a valid URL, then it should be treated as a valid item to
SEARCH on.
