Guess: you're looking at the wrong Sent folder.
Check your account settings, and make sure it's the Sent folder on the correct server. In some cases when the Sent folder specified is unavailable the Sent folder can get set to Sent folder under Local Folders.
This is a bug reporting forum. You can get more help in a Support Forum.
I would suggest you ask this question in the Thunderbird Support Forum and then post a link to that question, so I can take a look at the issue.

@Anje : I see it as a bug - as it has worked for many years and suddently stopped working.
@Magnus : The same, I havent been changing anything. And I now tried to look in all settings, but couldnt find anything looking unnormal. Where is that setting you talk about? Couldnt find it.
Its set to "place a COPY of all sent emails in the Sent Emails folder" as far as I can see.
Note: The email company changed from POP3 to IMAP at some point, but I beleave it was much earlier, like a year before.

That was what I was referring to. Make sure it's on the right server.

Its not helping me that you just repeat the same. I asked where is that setting? - I cannot see any setting anywhere about where the Sent Emails are!?
Sent Emails should just be "Sent Emails".. and not something I have to guess where is!?

What I'm saying is, you found it already. Sent mail is the "When sending messages, place a copy in" [Sent Mail folder]. There are two options:
- "Sent" folder on
- Other: [folder whereever]

Just because it stopped showing emails does not necessarilly mean it is a bug. Did you check you did not have some silly filter display operating on Sent folder eg: show unread mail ? - that would not show anything. Tha's why it's helpful and advisable to use the Support Forum to see if there is another reason. We can check out a whole bunch of things that's not really the topic for a bug forum.
You first state the account has worked for many years and then say everything swapped to using an imap account maybe a year ago.
When you changed from Pop to Imap, you would have delected the pop account after moving emails into the 'Local Folders' account and then created a new IMAP account. So that new account has only been up and running for about a year.
Then you would have ensured you had subscribed to see server folders and then checked all your Account Settings were set up as desired eg: Copies & Folders section etc.
I've no idea what server you are using nor whether you have more than one folder on server that's called 'Sent' or 'Sent Mail' etc. Sometimes that has caused confusion for some people. You would need to make sure you were set up to use the default server sent folder and subscribed to see it. Then make sure the 'Account Settings' > 'Copies & Folders' Sent settings were using 'Other' and 'Sent folder on correct mail account name'. You would also need to ensure the 'Synchronisation & Storage' settings were set up to fully download mail. If you need help and guidance on checking everything is set up properly then this is a topic for the Support Forum.
