Steps to reproduce:

MacOS 13.7.4

Issue has been happening for a good while ... >year, maybe 2? So it is not a new-version effect. This does not happen every time (unfortunately, for troubleshooting). Not sure if it is restricted to Replies or if it happens in any new email. I do seem to run across the issue multiple times a day. (Trying to reproduce it now, and of course it is not happening. I will keep trying.)

Add text to an email body. Highlight some text. Press backspace.

Actual results:

If you have a line of text, highlight a sub-string within that text, then use the backspace/left-delete button to delete that text, the new cursor position sometimes ends up about 5 characteres further left than when you started.

For example:
"Here is some text"

• Highlight the word "text" in the above line.
• Press backspace
• Cursor ends up between "s" and "o" of the word "some" (thereabouts... always seems to be 4 or 5 characters too far left.)

Expected results:

After hitting backspace, the cursor should end up at the left-position of the formerly highlighted text. In the example from above, it should have ended up between the 'space' and the end of the line, just left of where the "t" in "text" was.
