User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:136.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/136.0
Steps to reproduce:
- Choose a theme (I am using Alpenglow Developer Dark)
- Close and reopen Firefox
Actual results:
For approximately 1 second, the theme loads correctly after which it goes to a "default" theme, looking slightly different than the actual default theme. Disabling and reenabling the theme after each restart resolves the issue for that session.
Expected results:
Theme should load correctly

Win7 x64, FF 115.22.0esr.
I've had a FF theme (my own theme, I created) for ages.
Always been there.
Today, I open FF & it is gone - back to default (or whatever) theme.
I'll note that https://color.firefox.com/ seems to be ... kaput?
Does usage of a theme depend on the existence of a website?
For sure, my theme was in existence up to March 18, 2025.
Unsure after that time. Not there today, April 7, 2025.
(I may not have used FF, any browser, between March 19 & April 1.)
about:addons shows my "Extension", Firefox Color, v2.1.7, to be enabled.
Might this be yet more fallout from extension-gate, Update Firefox to prevent add-ons issues from root certificate expiration or https://ogp.me/?
It looks like I must have run FF on 4-3-2025 as I have (newly) hotfix-intermediate-2018@mozilla.com.xpi in my Profile.
So maybe hotfix was in fact, a "fix".
You mean to tell me that Bugzilla, those buttons in the reply box - whatever they may be, a pen?, a tag?, a crooked arrow?, a minimize? ?, do not work in FF 115 ESR ?
Anyhow...
It looks like I must have run FF on 4-3-2025 as I have (newly) hotfix-intermediate-2018@mozilla.com.xpi in my Profile.
That is wrong, kind of.
I must have run FF on 4-3-2025, it does have hotfix-intermediate-2018@mozilla.com.xpi installed - BUT, that is in a different Profile (a separate Profile that is only used for cash-app, as it is).
My regular Profile, /features/ is untouched since 12-15-2021 - has no hotfix-intermediate-2018@mozilla.com.xpi.
So... maybe I need to restart, or ... ?
So maybe I need to
So a browser restart gets my theme back - WHY?
/features/ is untouched.
hotfix-intermediate-2018@mozilla.com.xpi is not there.
https://color.firefox.com/ still brings up a "blank" page.
You mean to tell me that Bugzilla, those buttons in the reply box - whatever they may be, a pen?, a tag?, a crooked arrow?, a minimize? ?, do not work in FF 115 ESR ?
/now/ works (in FF 115 ESR).
(But does not work - in SeaMonkey, so, so much for the "open web".)
Oh, & antivirus or whatnot is NOT a factor.
Why!?

What are the steps exactly that we need to run to reproduce this on a clean profile in Firefox?
If it doesn't reproduce on your clean profile, can you share your about:support?

Hello,
The theme by itself or the browser is not the culprit here. Simply installing the theme and restarting the browser will not cause the issue. The theme is loaded correctly on browser launch and remains applied correctly after.
However, I noticed in the screenshot from Comment 0, that you have Dark Reader installed. Dark Reader has a setting to override the theme. This setting is located in the “More” section of the extension popup and it’s called “Change the browser theme”. If it is set to “Custom” then the behavior you mentioned occurs. If the setting remains on “Default” the theme you installed is kept after the browser launches.
Once Dark Reader overrides the applied theme, disabling and re-enabling the theme will correctly reapply it.
Tested on the latest Nightly (139.0a1/20250409210623) nor Release (137.0.1/20250407111027) under Windows 11.
Please confirm that changing the setting in Dark Reader resolved the problem.

Hello Alex,
Thank you for the response.
However, I noticed in the screenshot from Comment 0, that you have Dark Reader installed. Dark Reader has a setting to override the theme. It indeed did. It must have come with some update of Dark Reader that enabled it by default, but is now turned off by default.
