195793 - Quick Search text stays highlighted after a few seconds, adding more text replaces the highlighted text instead of allowing continuing

Using trunk builds starting on 2-28-2003 in the Quick Search text field the text
that is entered will become selected after 1-2 seconds not allowing the user to
continue adding text to the string for type-down searching.  In the 2-27 trunk
builds typing in text in the Quick Search text field would let the user continue
typing after briefly pausing.   

1. Launch app
2. In mail window with focus in Thread pane, type in 2 -3 characters for a quick
search.  Wait 2 seconds.  

Result: text that was typed is now selected for deletion, the user can't
continue with a text string to narrow down a search.  
Expected: the search should trigger but leave the text in the text field not
selected so user can add to the search criteria.

nominating this regression started 2-28 in the Quick Search text field and it
really annoying to have to type in the text again after a pause.

Note, need to test Ctrl+A when focus is in this text field per bug fix 180394

Note, Address book quick search has this problem too. When fixed test that too.

it might be that the delay is (800 or 500 ms?) is not enough?

nbaca thinks that fixing item b in bug 128503 may have caused this.
