Approving a manually-edited reviewbot comment resulted in collapsing whitespace, thus losing intended layout

I was reviewing a patch in phabricator, and made substantial edits to one of reviewbot's suggested comments, including adding newlines to split the comment into several blocks for better readability.
Frustratingly, when I then clicked "Approve", the text was collapsed into a single block, with my deliberate layout completely lost.
(Also frustrating: I considered copying the text into a new (manual) comment so that I could re-format it including the desired line breaks, but it didn't appear to be possible to select the text in the Approved-but-not-yet-submitted reviewbot comment: I could only select a single character or word.)
