Details

User-Agent:       Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030306
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030306

1. Previously running 2003-02-28-08-trunk;
2. CALENDAR IS INSTALLED
3. Control-panel: Add/Remove - Remove Mozilla (1.4a)
4. Install from 2003-03-06-08-trunk seamonkey

Mozilla immediately crashes when started at completion of install, reboot & try
to start Mozilla gives the same result. (Program Error).

5. Control-panel: Remove Mozilla (1.4)
6. DELETE ENTIRE COMPONENTS DIRECTORY
7. Re-install.

Now it works.
Aparently the presence of some pieces of the Calendar in the Components
directory causes the installation to be incorrect.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
If the problem is being caused with a 3rd party extension, like calendar, take
the issue to them.

Well, for now I'll move it over to the Calendar product -- which is not
(totally) a 3rd-party extension. Without some test whether some other content
in the Components directory would also create the failure, I don't buy the
notion that we have no responsibility for this.

So you're saying you're trying to mix an old version of calendar with a new
build? That's not guaranteed to work unless all the interfaces in question are
frozen, etc.
I should obviously have been more specific when I moved this over.

1. Installed Mozilla 2003-02-28-08-trunk;
2. Visited Calendar page, installed Latest XPI;
[ran for a week]
3. Installed Mozilla 2003-03-06-08-trunk.
FAILED - Went through the pain described in the original text. Re-installed.
4. Visited Calendar page, IT LOOKS THE SAME, installed Latest XPI;
[Happy again until next Thursday]

So, in that one week did the interfaces change so seriously that the presence of
the calendar from 02-28 kills the Mozilla from 03-06? Not impossible but, gee,
some warning would be nice. Do yoy'all at least pass some sort of
interface-control information among yourselves?

My original position was that, if having the calendar files present in the
Components directory prevents Mozilla from even starting, then Installer should
clean out the directory - with a warning would be nice, without would be
tolerable. However, at least one party at Browser-General was convinced it was
entirely a Calendar problem.

OTOH, it it IS entirely a Calendar problem, perhaps it's just another facet of
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195675
I cannot install recent Mozilla builds either.
At the end of the installation the installation crashes.
The talkback agent is not activated.
I suspect Calendar as the cause of this crash.
How do I remove Calendar without affecting other components?
