User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030305 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030305 I have in directory "/usr/local/share/fonts/chinese/" the Chinese fonts "fangzhengshutijianti.ttf" and "simsun.ttf", both owned by "root" but with the rights set to "0400", so only root could read it. Every time that I used mozilla-snapshot 1.3beta (for about a month now) on Debian GNU/Linux, the browser crashed either within the first five minutes, or it crashed immediately when I tried to access the Bookmarks (in the menu, or in the Personal Toolbar). When I accessed the bookmark editor using Ctrl+B, mozilla-snapshot didn't crash for a few minutes. I did a strace recently, and I found out that mozilla-snapshot crashed because it couldn't read simsun.ttf. I set it to "0644" and I can now access the bookmars, and mozilla-snapshot hasn't crashed even once today. Mind though that this problem didn't occur in Mozilla 1.2.1, so my guess is that it has something to do with the FreeType2 engine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. set a font in your fontpath with rights "0400" 2. open the latest snapshot of Mozilla with at least one bookmark with a Chinese title (traditional in my case, but I wouldn't be surprised if simplified has the same problems) 3. hover to "Bookmarks" either in the menu or in the Personal Toolbar, and click on it Actual Results: Lo and behold: instant crash (on my computer at least ;) Expected Results: Disregard the non-readable fonts, and use another one for Chinese characters. I'm using: -Debian GNU/Linux, unstable. -mozilla-browser and mozilla-snapshot-browser packages

ccing Chris, but please test with a mozilla.org build -- debian makes some "interesting" changes to their packages sometimes....
