When originally investigating the Tabs Tray performance after the Compose rewrite (in Bug 1815579), I noticed that there was a noticeable memory bump whenever the Tabs Tray was opened. I recently confirmed this and attached a quick system trace.
As part of this ticket, investigate and propose some approaches on how we can reduce this memory impact.
