User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20030210 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20030210 I have just installed 1.31b using the minimum installation (browser only). Now whenever I try to go to a web site that needs a username/password pair, I'm prompted to save my password, I try to, but another prompt for the Software Security Device is brought up. I don't have it; I can't turn it off; and canceling renders the password manager useless. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to a web site w/ a username/password pair 2. Type in information and click on the submit button 3. Try to save the information in the password manager 4. Software Security Device dialog comes up Actual Results: I can no longer use password manager Expected Results: Not asked for a master password/software security device password.
Can you go to https (secure) sites? If so, you have the "software security device". (But if you're seeing this dialog you've got it.) In the prefs dialog under "Privacy and Security" there are two relevant options, "Passwords" and "Master Password". Under Passwords if you select "encrypted" then passwords are cryptographically secure protected by the software security device. You will have to enter your master password to access them if you use this option. Under Master Password you can control how often you are prompted for the password, from once a session to every time it's needed. Sounds like it's working correctly to me, you just don't have your prefs set the way you want to work.
