Steps to reproduce:

  1. I rotated my monitor, to help avoid sidebars, and to help read pdfs. I now have plenty of space top-to-bottom, not much side-to-side.

  2. I opened Thunderbird. I tried various layouts, so that the folder list and message list wouldn't be next to each other, and so the message list would have more room to read titles. I tried various layouts.

Actual results:

  1. Every layout, including the "vertical" layout, especially the "vertical" layout, puts some panes side-by-side. None puts panes top-to-bottom.

Expected results:

  1. It'd help to have a top-to-bottom layout. Folder list up top, message list below that, messages below that.

  2. It'd also help to call the side-by-side layout "side by side" instead of "vertical" because that would actually describe it.
