This problem occurs with both Mozilla 1.3b and with 1.2.1, and only Mozilla
seems to produce this bug. I'm using Xfree 4.2.1 and GNOME 2.0
Randomly (or perhaps not) my mouse cursor will be displayed about 10/20 pixels
or so from the right of where it should be (for example, moving the cursor as
far left as possible leaves it offset 10 pixels from the edge, but when you
click its still hitting the real edge of the screen).
In a diagram if '^' were my mouse cursor and 'X' where it was clicking, it would
look like this:
X ^
[normally the X and ^ are on top of each other, of course]
When this happens, all my applications are affected (not just Mozilla) and
closing Mozilla doesn't make it go away. Restarting X does makes it go away.
Sometimes the effect is reversed, where I have the offset cursor and then it is
'unoffsetted'.
This bug occurs a lot, but I cannot reproduce it except by just using Mozilla
normally. I'll be more observant to see when this happens from now on.
It seems like it has some relevance to opening new tabs, but Im not sure if it
is related.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
UPDATE: I think I've narrowed this down a bit.
The problem does occur randomly, however, every time I notice it now, the last
thing I was doing was down scrolling the page by highlighting the text on the
page with the mouse.
Also [this is interesting] is that when I restart X the mouse cursor is still
offset, so its got to be some kind of kernel thing. I'm going to look into it.
The only reason I leave this bug open is because Mozilla is the only
application that triggers it.
Alias: mouse_offset
I can almost reproduce this... its definately got something to do with
highlighting text with the mouse in a page. Also, the problem occurs in the
mailer section of mozilla too.
Btw, now I am using mozilla 1.3final
I'm working on seeing what might reset the mouse cursor back to normal (in the
kernel) to see if I can trace exactly where the problem is coming from.
Also, scrolling around more and more after the mouse is offset does NOT make it
scroll farther and farther from the hotspot.

Dominic did you ever get to finding the reason for this problem? Does it still
happen? Thanks in advance!
yes found out why
it was definately X and not mozilla, as I started up X with just an xterm and
was (eventually) able to reproduce the problem without ever starting mozilla.
and even that has been fixed in later versions of X
sorry for the confusion, thanks
