mozilla-win32-installer-sea.exe  03/10/03 13:21:00 and a version from yesterday
do crash on first start (the automatic start in the installation process). Any
later start seems to work without problem. Here are the talkback IDs:
TB17950236M (today, i.e., version above)
TB17914151E (some version yesterday)

I can confirm that for all actual WIN-Trunks I tried starting with 20030307.
My last version without that problem is
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030304
More or less always I have to do a second start to Open Mozilla.
This makes unusable all those trunk-Versions.

Bug 196781 suggests you cannot start Mozilla at all which would be different.
But maybe I am just misreading that bug.

Did you install into clean Mozilla directory? Any other xpi's installed [such as
protozilla]?

No other XPIs, naked Mozilla. I uninstalled Mozilla, I did not delete additional
files or folders.

Uninstall Moz doesn't clear out the chrome directory entries of other XPI's
installed at one point. So you have to manually clear out the rest.

Just to make sure : do you install into a fully empty directory?

The only thing left is this file:
C:\Programme\Mozilla\components\Netscape\MozillaTrunk\info.db
So I removed C:\Programme\Mozilla\components. Only left are the plugins. This
does not change anything. Well, Talkback did not start.

So installing in fully clean directory solves your problem?

If you now install protozilla and after succesfull installation close all Moz
processes and start the browser again. Do you get your old warning back?

I installed the latest Trunk 20030310 or xxxxxx11(?) with a clean new user. It
starts up fine. Than I changed my prefs to the attached ones and Mozilla
crashes on startup. Till now I had no time to check which change causes this.

I think this is a dup of bug 196446.

Actually bug 196337 looks like it's the dup, but I think bug 196337 is being
tracked in bug 196446 along with some other bugs.

I just tested with a "clean" install (uninstall, then deleted remaining
subdiretories, except plugins) and the first lauch at end of the installation
still crashes. Subsequent launches are OK. The Talkback ID for the crash is:
TB17987856W

PS. Why is it not possible to copy/paste the TB ID from the "Netscape Quality
Feedback Agent"? Why do I have to type this long number manually? This is a
#§$%& nuissance and potential source for error. :(

I see a similar problem. 
The newer nightlies start, bring up the profile manager and crash after
selecting my beloved and working profile.

I tracked this down to the pref 

user_pref("nglayout.debug.disable_xul_cache", false);

If you remove this line from prefs.js, Mozilla starts properly.

Furthermore, Mozilla crashes if you select "Preferences" - "Debug" - "Disable
XUL cache".

(Though this checkbox is checked, a XUL.mfl is generated in my profile directory).

Any thoughts?

From the first incident, it looks like a dup of bug 196446 which was recently
fixed.  Please try a build after 3/11 and see if you can reproduce.
