User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312 After upgrading to Mozilla 1.3 the url-bar acts a bit weird. When I open a new tab through ctrl-t, or middle-click with the mouse and then try to edit the url it won't select the whole url if I doubleklick, just the last few chars are selected, sometime only the last "/" and nothing else. This is a Win2k with SP3 that I've done this on. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open a new tab. 2. Type an url, valid or not. 3. Doubleclick on the url-bar behind the url-text. Actual Results: The last character or word was selected. Expected Results: I expected Mozilla to select the whole text, but perhaps this is a design feature and not a bug. Thank You all for this wonderful product. I love it and use nothing else on any system.

exactly, that's by design. Use a trible click

Bug 125172 created the behavior. You might want to read bug 188567.

Ah.. Another gratituous functionality change making Mozilla operate differently from other browsers.. When you add a NEW function it is poor system design to change the OPERATION that millions of people are familiar with. The NEW feature should have been executed with the three click sequence and the full URL select should have been left TWO clicks.

completely agree with Additional Comment #4 From Joe Mehaffey 2003-03-16 15:54 ------- this is a horrible design decision

So is there a pref I can add to make this function as one would expect it too? Like comment #4 for instance where the triple click would select the / and a double click selects the entire url (not that triple click would ever be used then). If there isn't do I need to create a new bug for that feature or will this one be reopened? Andy

Many of us are wondering WHY the Mozilla designers think that what people want is a) two clicks highlight the file extention and b) three clicks highlight the entire filename. Since I have NEVER had an occasion to highlight a file extention (alone) and since ALL OTHER browsers seem to highlight the entire filename with a double click, I am perplexed as to WHY someone feels it is an improvement to have Mozilla behave in a nonstandard manner so users have to click THREE times to highlight the entire file. Can someone enlighten us? Thanks Joe

From my enhancement request: ------- Additional Comment #1 From Boris Zbarsky 2003-04-02 10:56 ------- user_pref("layout.word_select.stop_at_punctuation", false); will do what you want. ------- Additional Comment #2 From Jason Bassford 2003-04-02 11:34 ------- That preference is currently broken when used in user.js or prefs.js. You *can* use it in all.js, but if you upgrade to the latest nightlies all the time, that's not a feasible workaround (since you'd have to be constantly editing the file). This is really a dupe of bug 188567. (Well, not *technically* but since really requesting a preference for this would only generate a WONTFIX result, it's the best solution to the reporter's problem.) Note: You can now also single click on the proxy icon to the left of the URL text. ------- Additional Comment #3 From Jason Bassford 2003-04-02 11:35 ------- *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 188567 ***

today i have tested lastest snapshot on Windows XP. All was normal there - first click selects full url. Second click selects word. But ame snapshot in Linux require 3click for selecting full, and double click selects words with characters surrounding - its ugly.

See bug 190615, which would make double clicking select the entire URL.
