Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312
When I start the mail client, I can delete one message. After that completes, I
can not delete any more messages. I can read other messages. If I attempt a
second deletion, it seems to do nothing. After the second deletion attempt, I
can read messages that were received prior to the deletion attempt. New messages
that I receive notfication of after the 2nd deletion attempt can not be read,
even though the subject line shows up in the message header pane.
In order to delete another message, I must completely exit Mozilla (not just the
mail reading window).
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. start mozilla
2. open the mail reader client
3. delete a message
4. attempt to delete a 2nd message
Actual Results:
It ignored the 2nd deletion attempt.
Expected Results:
It should have deleted the 2nd message

This sounds like a problem we've been experiencing, only I haven't noticed the
behaviour after a second deletion attempt. What we get is the following:
- Start mail
- Delete a message from Inbox
- "Moving message to trash" appears in status bar and stays there for the rest
of the session
- The message doesn't disappear from the inbox
- Further deletion attempts fail (basically because the first attempt hasn't
completed)
Deleting all the summary files (*.msf) cures the problem, but it does reoccur
after a while.
I have seen this happen on two colleague's machines, both using 1.3 (and the two
release candidates) and both using POP with the mailfiles stored on a network
drive. I've never seen it using 1.3 and IMAP, or with 1.3 and POP with mail
stored locally. With one colleague who was experiencing the problem, I got them
to uninstall 1.3 and go back to 1.2.1 (without deleting summary files). The
problem went away instantly.
This bug has many similarities with Bug 142196 [Cannot get pop email sometimes
(if profile is on network drive)]. The fix for this bug was only checked in for
1.2. Before that, it was impossible to use POP with mail stored on network
drives. I suspect that this new bug has now reverted the situation for 1.3,
which is a real pain as it effectively stops businesses from using Mozilla/POP.
We were all set to rollout with 1.3 but now cannot until this is fixed.
Reporter, could you confirm whether you are using POP or IMAP and, if POP,
whether your mail files are local or on a network drive?
Severity: normal → major
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Flags: blocking1.4a?

I am using POP to retrieve my mail and storing the mail locally - not on a
networked drive.
