User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312

When the mozilla emailer try sending message, and when Norton Anti-Virus
outgoing email check option is used, the mozilla hangs.
It doesn't repond and the state remains as such.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Turn on Outgoing Email Check option on the Norton Anti Virus
2. Try sending email
3.

Actual Results:
The mozilla emailer hangs

Expected Results:
It should be transmitted.

Probably it should be solved by the Norton side. However, you may try to check
it, and report it to the Symantec.
Using XP Pro SP1 and first NAV 2002 and now NAV 2003 i have no problems sending
mail.

Sorry can't reproduce. Anything you can do to test some more? Try sending a
blank message to your self. Using the same SMTP server can you send mail using
Outlook Express etc.

Related to bug 145913?
Reporter: Are you sending via SSL?
I didn't use SSL. I can reproduce it always.

The version of the Norton Antivirus is 8.07.17c, and it's 2002 version.
I use Windows XP Home edition on my notebook.

It's strange that others can't reproduce it.
For me, every time when I send email, it happens.
This may be related to Bug 198582. The relationship to Norton Anti-Virus may
only be coincidental.
I can confirm this bug,

I used NAV2003 and mozilla 1.3a for quite a long time now without any problems.
Since 2 weeks now I also get a hanging mozilla when trying to virus-check an
outgoing eMail.

so far I just deactivated the virus-checking. May this is related to a update
that symantec may released some time ago.
I too have seen the bug, using NAV 2002 under Win 98SE. The bug started when I
upgraded Mozilla to v1.3 (not alpha). When using 1.2.1, the problem did not
manifest. I don't always see the problem, but I see it a lot. It seems to
occur more frequently if sending HTML messages, or Text and HTML, or
attachments. And yes, I am using SSL to my ISP's mail server.
For what it's worth, this event occurs when I am using Mozilla 1.3 (Mozilla/5.0
(Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312)

It does not happen in Netscape 7, Opera 6, Opera 7.

Hope this helps

 Additional Comment #3 From John L. Webber 2003-03-28 09:03 -------

Another update - when I changed my SMTP settings to "Never use SSL" from "Use
SSL if available, that fixed the problem.

I changed my setting to "Never use SSL," and this 'solved' the problem with
Norton Anti-virus causing the program to freeze.

The ISP is www.islandnet.com, however I connect to it using a Shaw cable connection
Setting my SMTP settings to "Use SSL if available" or "Always use SSL" will
freeze Mozilla 1.4RC1 and 1.4RC2. Not using Norton Antivirus here, only the
freeware AVG.
according to comment:
"I changed my setting to "Never use SSL," and this 'solved' the problem with
Norton Anti-virus causing the program to freeze."

Gemal, how is this fixed if you can't use SSL to receive your mail?
are you still having problems in the latest version of mozilla?
basiclly I dont think it's mozilla problem. you wrote "Probably it should be
solved by the Norton side. However, you may try to checkit, and report it to the
Symantec."
I don't have a computer with the OS platform in question, so I don't know
whether it's still a problem (me != reporter). But if it is, this bug should
either be an evangelisation bug if the error is on Norton's side or a MailNews
bug if Mozilla does something not standard conform.
Nothing about this indicates that anything in Mozilla was either broken or fixed.

Hello. I am a reporter of this problem.
It doesn't cause any problem now for me.
I use Mozilla 1.5 RC2 and the Norton Antivirus from SystemWorks.
