User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312 GalionPublicLibrary/1.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312 I'm defining "phantom calendars" as calendars that appear as checkboxes in the list of calendars (upperleft corner of Calendar window, Calendars tab) with no name and no events. I'm not sure what causes them to exist, but this is the second install of Mozilla and Calendar in which I've had them appear on me, and once they exist I can reproduce a crash as follows: Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start Mozilla and open a Calendar window. 2. Click on the "Calendars" tab. 3. Do one of the following: * Attempt to uncheck a phantom calendar. * Right-click a phantom calendar, choose "Delete Calendar", then hit the "Delete Calendar" button. * Right-click a phantom calendar, choose "Delete Calendar", then hit the "Delete Calendar and File" button. Actual Results: TB18329108X TB18329104W TB18328888Q TB17763137G TB17762896K TB17762821G Expected Results: Mozilla should not crash, and in the "delete calendar" and "delete calendar and file" cases the offending phantom calendar should Go Away(TM). I'm going to try to work up steps-to-reproduce for getting these phantom calendars to appear in the first place, but I'll file that as a separate bug (though I'll note its number here and this bug there). I will (momentarily) attach a small screenshot showing an example, though. Tenatively marking as Critical since Mozilla crashes, though there's an easy workaround (don't attempt to get rid of the phantom calendars), so you can mark as Normal if that seems more appropriate.

Only phantom calendars (such as these shown here) cause this problem. As far as what causes the phantom calendars to exist in the first place... I don't precisely know yet. But once you get 'em, the only way I know to get rid of them is to do a fresh install of Mozilla. Anything else you do to get rid of them causes this here crash bug.

Except that, in at least one instance, I found that clicking (in Navigator)
on a link that pointed to text/calendar data caused that calendar to replace
one of the phantom ones. Not sure if that means anything.

Yes, I can confirm this - initially I got phantom calendars when testing a script to create calendars. Eventually after a shutdown & restart of mozilla, I was able to delete the calendars - it seemed to happen when calendars were remote syncing and I treied to delete the phantoms. System : Windows 2000 pro, Mozilla 1.1 [Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.1) Gecko/20020826] [Mozilla Calendar 2003033112-cal]

I can confirm everything mentioned in the inital description of this bug! While looking how to get rid of the phantom calendar (and the crashes) I found that CalendarManager.rdf is broken! It is syntactically wrong *and* inconsitent mixing up two different ways to save properties. After fixing this file the phantom calendar and the crashes vanished. I will create two attachments, one with the original broken CalendarManager.rdf and another with the fixed one. I xxx-ed out my passwords (see Bug 185340) and some parts of the IP-adresses. I'm using "Mozilla 1.5 - Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007" and "Mozilla Calendar 2003092614-cal" after upgrading feom Mozilla 1.3 and the previous calendar release using Windows XPpro
For the attachements of CalendarManager.rdf files did not work (?), see bug 226180 comment 4,5,6

Is this still an issue?

Maybe not. I'm currently using Sunbird 0.2a, and I have not thus far seen
this bug crop up there. I created some new calendars, and I only got just
one copy of each of them. So it's probably fixed. Probably.
Marking WORKSFORME; anyone who reproduces this on a recent version can reopen.
