It would be great to have a checkbox "Apply recursively" when creating a filter,
so that if I'm in Inbox and I apply a recursive filter, it will traverse through
all sub-folders of Inbox as well.

This would be great for applications such as archiving old e-mail.

Furthermore, to kind of go along with this new option, it would be great to have
an option in the filter when moving mail to a folder.. a checkbox like "Preserve
folder hierarchy".  Given that option is activated, assume the following scenario:

1) We've got an Inbox with two child folders, Humor and Jobs
2) We're going to run a recursive filter on "Inbox" that will apply to several
e-mails in Inbox, Humor, and Jobs
3) The filter will move e-mail to the folder "Archive", and "Preserve folder
hierarchy" is checked.

The filter is run.. e-mails in Inbox (root level) are moved to Archive.  Then,
two sub-folders "Humor" and "Jobs" are created under "Archive".. and the
approprate messages are moved over to those sub-folders.

If the "Preserve folder hierarchy" option had been off, then all e-mails
would've been moved to "Archive" only, and no sub-folders would've been created.

I wonder why nobody seems to need that feature? 
You can search mails recursively, why can you not apply filters recursively?
