Every time I try to change a My Netscape Preference by browsing to the above
URL, MOZILLA locks up totally trying to display the page. I get one or two
increments of refresh, and then the application locks, forcing me to shut it
down manually.

Looks like PrefUI bug

I think this might be a dom bug but could not verify it
I went to the page
http://my.netscape.com/generalpreferences_wrapper.tmpl?services=generalpreferenc
es,&s=179
it layout but of course through a million javascript error.
I tried to go to the above URL but that did not work.
Does this happen on the new browser?

V -- can you take a look at this? The content model looks ok.
In an attempt to get my bug list in order again, marking all the bugs I have
currently as ASSIGNED.
spam: added self to cc list as this might affect my realm.
We're doing much better now. No lockups and the page basically seems to work.
Turns out that there are two versions of the page, depending on whether you're
logged in as a registered user or not. Each has its problems:
1) If you go to the URL specified and you are *not* logged in as a registered
user, you get a page that contains several checkboxes and a dropdown select. The
select is not displayed completely and clicking on it relays out the entire
page.
2) If you go to the URL specified and you are logged in as a registered user,
you can modify the options in the scrolling selects, but changes don't happen as
you would expect. This is a result of bug 16879 which should be fixed very soon.

Passing the bug along to Rod to look at the problem with the first page.
