User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030325 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030325 Trying to to beyond the first screen of this site pops up a JavaScript alert advising that the browser is set not to accept cookies, and must do so to use the site. It does this even though my Privacy & Security Setting -> Cookies is set to Enable All Cookies, and under Advanced -> Scripts and Plugins I am set to allow Create or change cookies and Read cookies. Under my Cookie Manager, the site is in fact successfully storing this cookie on my system when I load the first page: Name: cookies Content: Ok Host: www.verizonwireless.com Path: /customerservice/ Server Secure: no Expires: at end of session Policy: no policy about storing identifiable information Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Visit http://www.verizonwireless.com/customerservice/ 2. Enter a ZIP code and submit (it doesn't appear to matter if the "remember ZIP" option is checked or not. Actual Results: A JavaScript alert dialog box with error message appears advising to change the browser settings to accept cookies. Expected Results: The next page of the site should have loaded. This problem does not occur when using Netscape 7.02 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.0.2) Gecko/20030208 Netscape/7.02) I tried creating a brand-new Mozilla profile and still had the same problem.
Bill, This may be a cookie bug in recent 1.4a builds. Can you check with a 1.3 build to see if the problem still occurs or switch the user agent string for Mozilla to NS7 and see if it is user agent string dependent? ccing darin the cookie monster.
Confirming: Switched to the 1.3 milestone build and this URL worked fine. Confirming: Changing the UA in my 1.4a nightly to a Netscape 7 UA did not correct the problem. I would switch this bug to Browser/Cookies, but there appear to be a number of bugs this could be dup'ed against (bug 195643, bug 191311, bug 186844) and I'm not certain what would be the best course. I leave that for someone better aware of the issue to decide....
Based on bug 191311 comment 6 and bug 191311 comment 9, I updated to the newest nightly 2003032808 and this problem has gone away entirely. This bug should probably be duped to the 'disable cookies in mailnews' bug referenced in the above comments, but I can't find that bug.
unless someone objects, i will just mark this wfm
