User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030328 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030328 I think that % is more useful than the progress bar. Progress bar should be out by default. % should be in by default. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
Ummm... and why so? (apart from personal preference) You know that you can choose the percent column and remove the progressmeter by clicking right of the column headers? This is a rfe for hiding the progressmeter by default in favor of the percentage, but I see no reason why it should be a valid one (no reason given why this behaviour should be preferred and it can be easily changed). Suggesting INVALID unless there are better reasons coming up than "I think".
Severity: trivial → enhancement
Because % is more exact than a progress meter. % saves more space. % would be a better default. I know I can change it, but I like good defaults. I don't see this as an enhancement. I see feature requests as enhancements.
How is a change of defaults a bug?? I see no error here. This is an enhancement, at best. My personal opinion is that images say more than words, in this case: a look at the progress meter can tell you much faster what you want to know than reading and interpreting percentages. I don't know why you want exact values here, but if you really do: the "Transferred" column is _much_ more exact and actually very much like a percentage so it looks almost like a duplication of functionality to me. This is why I like the current defaults. I could have invalidated this bug, but have decided against it because it's just a matter of opinion... ...with the bad feeling that nobody really cares to decide and this bug will needlessly stay open for a long time. (unless somebody just says NO!) Yes, this is probably a two-line fix and even I could do it easily, but why should I when I have to expect that tomorrow somebody else comes and gives his reasons (see above) why it should be changed back?
I see your point. You like visual stuff, and I like reading stuff. Would you accept this as a good bug if I renamed it to "Place % inside the progress bar"

Maybe soemthing like this?
Sounds better. :-) But is just as unlikely to be implemented soon because it is not a two-lines fix at all and nobody seems to be currently working at any (even more serious) Download Manager issues. And aren't 19000 out of 20000 open Mozilla bugs more important than this minor improvement would be? But it's your bug, decide what to do with it...
Why not include both columns by default? The percentage column doesn't take too much place, so it would be possible to include both.
Don't know. I also made http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=198898 Reason I'm filing these is to reduce download manager's width.
Download Manager is still small. I'll just rename this bug.
Summary: Remove Progress from Download Manager and replace with % as default → Add % to accompany progress by default

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter.
